Shadow in the Wind

Shadow in the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon was an amazing book. The book has a creepy and eerie feeling to it. It keeps you wanting to read more and find out what is going to happen to the main character. Once you think you have it all figured out the author throws in a curb ball that defeats your reasoning. I am defiantly going to read other books of him.
Zafon, Carlos Ruiz. The Shadow in the Wind. The Penguin Press. 175 Hudson Street New York, New York 10014. 2001. (300/486 pages)

I have enjoyed reading The Shadow in the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. It has opened up a new type of genre to me. I usually read only romance books so when my mom recommended this mystery book to me, I decided to take a chance and I am glad I did.
The author’s choice of words makes the book challenging enough but you are still able to easily follow the plot of the story. Originally this book was published in Spanish under the title Las Sombra del Viento and was later translated to English. The book is split up into four parts and takes place over a ten year period from 1945 to 1955. The story follows the main character, Daniel, during this time period as he tries to solve the mystery surrounding a book he is reading. Sometimes the author writes in the past when one of the characters is talking about the mystery of Julian Carax’s life, the author of Daniel’s book. He italicizes these parts so the reader knows the author is referencing the past.
When reading The Shadow in the Wind you may think that you have the mystery solved as to who is taking the books of Julian Carax but then the main characters find another clue. You want to keep reading to find out where the next clue will take you. I would definitely recommend this book to others.
