Thanksgiving is a time of giving thanks for the things that you take for granted in everyday life. Here is a list of things that I am grateful for.
Food. Every day I am provided with three healthy meals to eat at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Many people around the world are not as fortunate as me and possible could only receive one meal a day if at that. Eating the proper amount of food is necessary to being able to develop to your best abilities.
House. Even though I complain about sometimes because its “old and drafty” I am still grateful that there is shelter over my head. The tornado that hit Joplin, Missouri in the summer destroyed people homes without a notice leaving many people without a place to stay. The flood of 2008 hit our own town directly. Just walking two blocks from my house I could see people’s houses in water up to their first floor while I have a dry house.
Family. They can be annoying or embarrassing at times but they are always there for me when I need them. My parents are very supportive of the sports or hobbies that I enjoy and are always there when I participate in a race or have a cross country meet. Unlike some families were they rarely ever see each other or tensions make it impossible to be together whenever we do something together we always have a fun time. I believe everyone needs some type of family whether they are related to each other or not.
Job. In this economy you should be very grateful that you have a job because of the high unemployment rate. My job isn’t want I want to do the rest of my life but I am able to save up money to go to college and pursue my dreams.
Protection. Unlike some countries I can go outside without having to worry about someone trying to kidnap me or rape me. There isn’t a war going on inside my country were buildings are destroyed and people are killed right before my eyes.
School. It can be a pain when you have a butt load of homework to do when I get home but at least I am able to expand my learning for free. There are people that are illiterate and cannot understand the basic of a certain subject. After I graduate from high school I am fortunate enough to go on to college why some people can’t afford to get more education.
Money. I may not be super rich but I have enough money to go on day to day without worrying how my parents are going to pay the bills at the end of the month. Poverty is everywhere not just in third world countries. There are people out there that only make two dollars a day. That is not enough money to support yourself and defiantly not enough for a family but people out there have to.
There are many more things that I am thankful for but at least you get the gist of it. Now what are you thankful for this year?
