He is known as the “quiet” Beatle. His name is the most forgotten name out of the four singers in the musical group, which is why he is also considered the “forgotten Beatle” too. He is George Harrison.
Many people may not know this but George Harrison passed away in 2001, ten years ago last Tuesday, November 29. He died of metastatic non-small lung cancer at his house in Hollywood at the age of 58. I am writing this blog in honor of him and all his accomplishments that he achieved during his life time. (I also if you did not notice wore my Beatles shirt on Tuesday in honor of him).
When the Beatles started out in the 1950’s he was the youngest Beatle, at the age of 14. This though, didn’t stop him in writing his own music and playing guitar for the band. His most famous song that he sang would be “Something” which some people consider to be the greatest love song ever written. It is the second most covered Beatle song after “Yesterday” by singers like Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and many others. Another song that he is famous for was “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”. I did some research on why he wrote this song and found that he decided to write a song based on the words he read when opening a random book at a random spot. As you can see the first words he read were “gently weeps”. This song in 2004 hit the list of the 500 greatest songs of all time. After the Beatles broke up in 1970 he produced his own CD called “All Things Must Pass” and had a number one single called “My Sweet Lord”.
Personally, he is my least favorite Beatle out of all of them. It wasn’t his music that he created, but his name that bothered me the most. This may sound petty but his name doesn’t have that star factor like Ringo Star or John Lennon. His name could be your next door neighbor’s, not part of one of the most well-known musical groups of all time. There is one song though that I really like of his which would be “Here Comes the Sun”, it has such a catchy tune to it.
Even though he is not my favorite and is the most forgotten Beatle he did contribute a lot to the Beatles that helped them gain popularity.
